If education were an animal, we would be extinct

That's a personal opinion, okay? Not the opinion of the Tuscaloosa City Schools.

The educational establishment, as a whole, is sluggish and responds too slowly to changing demands. Animals that respond slowly to environmental change are eaten, freeze, die of heat stroke or thirst, drown, or succumb to a multitude of other conditions they can't handle. Animals that respond quickly to change, survive and even thrive.

Our students have changed. Our methods of communication have changed and are changing again every month. Our tools have changed. Many educators know this and want to respond, but it's as if we were individual cells in a lumbering, unresponsive body.

Any other cells out there ready to break loose and metastasize to the brain? Wait, where is the brain? Somewhere in Washington? The Senate? The House? Ouch. Looks as if we have multiple brain nodes. Ouch. Ouch. I'm failing to react appropriately.
